EmuCR:WinUAEWinUAE v2.3.0 Beta 15 is released.Winuae is the commodore amiga emulator for Windows. WinUAE is a mostly complete software emulation of the hardware of the Commodore Amiga 500/1000/2000. A Commodore Amiga, for those who don’t know, is a 16/32 bit computer system based on the Motorola 680×0 CPU and a few specially designed custom chips that provide very good graphics and sound capabilities. Its first incarnation, the A1000, appeared in 1985, followed by the highly successful A500 and A2000 models. WinUAE is a port of the originally written for Unixish systems UAE; but over time, it seems the Windows port, WinUAE has become the best version available on any platform. WinUAE is free software: you are welcome to distribute copies of it and/or modify it, under certain conditions. There is no warranty of any kind for UAE. For more details concerning these issues, please read the GNU General Public License, which describes the terms under which WinUAE is distributed.

WinUAE v2.3.0 Beta 14 changelog:
– DSKSTEP and DSKSELx going inactive at the same time steps the rw-head normally. Fixes Euro Soccer stupid disk change detection.
– uaehf.device HD_SCSICMD TEST UNIT READY returned an error (HDInstTools works again)
– added 68020 CE-mode very approximate 2-stage CPU prefetch pipeline emulation (not that 68020 don’t really have 2-stage prefetch but it still will be more compatible without major changes) Fixes ATR and (partially) Last Ninja 3 CD32 graphics glitches, (missing blitter waits..) also more compatible with self-modifying code
– CD32/CDTV empty “image mode” tried to select physical drive
– added windowed mode configuration GUI setting (borderless, minimal, normal, extended) Extended is WIP and something you (and me?) should ignore
– do not capture mouse if left mouse was clicked and WinUAE window had no focus (now available via GUI = can’t be totally useless anymore..)
– borderless mode can be dragged by clicking mouse button once, only double click captures mouse
– fixed epson printing emulation blank page when printing multiple text pages and later pages didn’t have any font or font style changes
– more prowizard ripper updates

Another beta update for the best Commodore Amiga emulator there is now, let’s see what this version has in store for us:

  • <drive letter>: without ‘\’ in harddrive paths was detected as a relative path, automatically add missing ‘\’, it was commonly used in old config files
  • CD32 pad in 2-button mode usually returned non-existing 3rd button pressed
  • CD32 pad in 2-button mode didn’t have pullup resistor emulation (was lost when joystick pullups were removed in 2.2)
  • autocorrect CD32/CDTV CDA starting position if R-W subchannel data is detected, workaround for a bug (happens on real CD32 and CDTV too) that can cause missed subchannel frames at play startup causing corrupt or missing CD+G graphics
  • CD thread safety critical sections moved to common part from image mounter
  • CD image mounter in play state while replacing image: state was still reported as playing
  • do not enable rawinput if rawinput capable device is inserted after winuae has been started
  • 2x or larger filters changed RTG hardware mouse cursor size.. (D3D + hardware RTG cursor only)
  • scsi emulation always-on logging disabled, added -scsiemulog command line parameter
  • Download from the release thread at the English Amiga Board or below.

If you want a high end Amiga experience you can’t go wrong with this package, it even includes the kickstart roms (I’m sure you have all dumped them from your Amiga’s anyway though) so let’s find out what this version has shall we?

    • More than 100 usability improvements for a more refined and productive experience
    • New user interface features to more easily swap disks, insert blank disks, grab screens, apply existing screenshots, etc.
    • Enhanced integrated Workbench 1.3 and 3.X environments (new configuration settings, easy printing, etc.)
    • New preset Amiga configurations, including CDTV and CD³² (seamlessly work with RP9 files, ISO/BIN/CUE images, and physical CD media)
    • Extended RP9 format to support CD images (CDTV and CD³² content), embedded configuration tags and third-party editors
    • Enhanced RetroPlatform Library (to recognize and configure games, etc.) with live updates
    • Enhanced Export to Device functionality to save games to SD card, etc.
    • Now Playing data for use by Skype, Messenger, Twitter and similar plugins
    • New Gallery content
    • New system ROMs (e.g. some versions that were unique to the Amiga 600 and Amiga 3000)
    • Vastly improved, multithreaded content caching (no more “Building cache” or “Please wait” messages)
    • Officially tested to comply with “Compatible with Windows 7″ requirements, with full support for Windows Vista and Windows 7, both x86 and x64 (possibly still the first and only Windows software with custom-shaped glass-enabled skin)

At the same time, we also released a 2010.1 version of C64 Forever, with similar new features and enhanced recognition of older 8-bit titles (not just C64, but also PET/CBM, VIC 20, C16, etc.) We just published some links to newly supported 8-bit games at http://www.facebook.com/c64forever.

On the Amiga side, content recognition was also extended to cover a majority of known CDTV and CD32 titles. As we continue our cataloging effort, we are also gathering rating information for future parental control functionality. Lots of Amiga Forever and C64 Forever users enjoy playing classic games with their children, and we’ll try to assist in selecting the best content. An additional project that is in the works is a special “kiosk” operation mode for museums.

For making all of this possible, we again have to thank you and the numerous contributors and testers (listed in the documentation) who assisted our development team.
Amiga Forever remains available in a downloadable Plus Edition (which allows you to burn your own CD) and a Premium Edition (boxed package with CD and two video DVDs). While the software on the CD is new, the videos in the 2010 Premium Edition have not changed (http://www.amigaforever.com/videos/).

Purchase and download from the homepage or order a physical copy from there whichever you prefer, note that there is currently an offer on the upgrade edition making it only EUR 14.95 until August 23, presumably that’s for the download version rather than the boxed one but there’s some money off either way it seems.
